About Us
History
After years of seeing the impact of rust on my own vehicles, I decided it was time to take the fight to rust. I’ve personally experienced the pain of watching a cherished vehicle slowly disintegrate before my eyes, as well as the hours of extra frustration from working on rusty bolts and nuts. My goal is to provide the same attention to detail treating your vehicles as I do to my own.
Why Rust Proofers?
FAQ
Any time of year. Many people think this needs to be done right before winter. Corrosion happens due to metal reacting with water and oxygen. The high humidity of the summer speeds up corrosion. The bottom line is that any time of year is a good time of year for rust proofing.
Rust Proofers does not use any products that wash off easily and require annual application. There is no need to wait until “just before the first snowfall” to have your vehicle treated. Avoid the late season rush and schedule today.
Absolutely not. This may be the #1 question that Rust Proofers get. While there are some mobile services that give everyone a bad name. Rust Proofers is not one of them. We don’t just craw around underneath for 30 minutes and leave (leaving you ripped off). We:
- Use a portable steam machine or FrameJet to clean the inside of frame for body on frame vehicles.
- Rinse the underbody off with a salt neutralizer.
- Surface prep with wire brushing, needle scaling, and wiping down with PurePrep (level of surface prep is dictated by product and package).
- Remove one wheel at a time to properly access suspension components. This also depends on product and package.
- Vehicle is driven up on portable ramps to properly access underbody.
Our Premier treatment is meant to provide lasting protection without the need for reapplication. Based on my testing with the product, body panels can be considered treated for the useful life of the vehicle. Frame/underbody protection should last over 5 years.
Our Standard coating protects for two years and we recommend another application going into the 3rd winter. That being said, once that second application is done, you most likely would never need another treatment as there is a cumulative effect to adding the coatings.
Frame/underbody treatment is based on normal city/highway driving. If you mud bog 10,000lbs of mud onto the bottom of your truck every weekend and then use a heated pressure washer to wash it off, assume a negative impact to the life expectancy of the treatment.
We use a low to no drip formulas. We minimize drips as much as possible by putting down a tarp and catch trays underneath.
Before we leave, we will treat any stains with oil dry. This alone will significantly reduce the appearance . If possible, we suggest parking on the street or outside of your garage for a day or two.
- For the Standard and Standard Plus packages, it is recommended that you wash the vehicle as normal and avoid any additional underbody blast.
- For the Premier Package, feel free to blast away once the product has fully cured.
Our products are commercial grade and have a proven track record. We are not tied to one product manufacturer. Simply put, we use the best product for the job. That being said, Woolwax is typically used for the standard undercoating due to it being the thickest lanolin based undercoating available.
The company that makes original Woolwax also makes a number of other products some of which are used in the Premier service package.
Other products that may be used include Corrosion Free, Carwell’s T32, and products from Petroleum Service Company.
Possibly. However, we plan on continuing to offer the convenience of our seasonal mobile offering.
There are advantages to the mobile service such as:
- No guessing on what is being done. If you are there to see the service, you know what work is being done.
- When applicable and depending on the service package purchased, outdoor hose hookups can be utilized to use a FrameJet to clean the inside of the frame.
- Some shops use drive on lifts, tires can not be removed on those. This is not an issue when using a jack to remove tires on the ground.
Almost never and never without asking! Some rust proofing companies drill holes as a matter of course. They do this to standardized their process and equiptment. I counted 18 holes in a vehicle once. This is due to a preference for using airless sprayers. We use both airless and air sprayers. It may be an inconvenience for us, but it allows using much smaller tipped nozzles that airless sprayers can not use due to their high pressure. This allows us to get into all areas without drilling.
If there is an unusual situation where one or two small holes are required to access a body panel, we will discuss this with you before any holes are drilled. The holes are capped with “factory” looking plugs.
Note – Our budget service does require holes to be drilled. This is done to keep the cost low by allowing us to save time and minimize the amount of equipment required.
Absolutely not! Millions of vehicles across the US and Canada have been treated for rust and corrosion resistance.
